Mace Windu has arrived. Individually, he’s awesome. But if you want to really get into Star Wars: Shatterpoint, you want this box for other reasons.
Let’s talk about PC… Mace Windu gives 6SP to build with - the least of any Primary Unit to date. CT-411 Ponds is the only 3PC Secondary out from the "Fall of the Jedi" Era. So if you are running Mace Windu, you’re running CT-411 Ponds.
Having CT-411 Ponds as a 3PC Secondary is amazing for your collection if you play Galactic Republic. It lets you be far more flexible regarding which specific Clones you’re bringing with any given Galactic Republic Primary, and Ponds gives you quite a bit for the PC. Purely on damage efficiency, 4 uncancelled Strikes gives him 7 damage. Aurra Sing and Kalani, both 5PC Secondaries, give you 6 damage at 4 strikes. He also gives Clones immunity to Exposed and lets a Galactic Republic Unit dash on his activation. Fantastic value for the PC.
The ARF Troopers are the best clones currently out, in my opinion. They are fast and have great Hunker efficiency, and they have the best Coordinated Fire in the Galactic Republic by a mile. They give out an Exposed condition before an ally’s ranged attack, at Range 5. Shooting a baddie nearby ARF Troopers rips away potentially the best part of your opponent’s defense roll. For free.
Finally, there is Mace Windu, who is about as silly as you’d think for the character this entire game is named after (see the Legends Novel, Mace Windu: Shatterpoint). Activating him with the Shatterpoint lets him roll 3 extra dice on melee attacks this turn if you’re in Form VII Vaapad, and refresh 2 FP and Heal 3 times if you’re in Jedi Master stance. He rerolls failures by spending FP, and most annoyingly (source: I have played against him four times) gives Steadfast and Protection to all Galactic Republic Characters within Range 5 as an Identity ability. If the enemy Mace Windu dives the center Objective, expect every attack you make for the rest of the game to just be that more irritating.
This is a great box, even considering how inflexible Jedi Master, Mace Windu is. The rest of the box makes up for it. A great Galactic Republic pack.
