I love Lego Ninjago and this board game really captures a mix between the original series and feeling more updated to fit the “Legacy” theme!
As a longtime fan of Lego Ninjago, and since my friend group loves to play board games often, I was ecstatic when I found out a board game was coming out. Especially one where minifigs were the game pieces!
The game is four players, and plays like a tower defense, where you and your party of ninja work together to beat up bad guys from across the ninjago series and protect the Destiny’s Bounty from destruction. You play through adventures of increasing difficulty that pull inspiration from the different seasons of the show, with unique additions and rules added to each adventure to keep it interesting. The difficulty can be overwhelming, but me and my fellow ninja friends haven’t lost an adventure yet!
The player pieces being minifigures was a stellar idea! As you progress through an adventure, you unlock abilities for your ninja, in which you put together a weapon or accessory and place it on your minifig to indicate you’ve unlocked said ability! It’s super cute and unique! The player pieces being minifigs also means you can swap them out for any lego figs you have, especially of the same ninja!
Overall a stellar game. I’d love to see expansions for this game maybe with a larger board, more adventures, and additional playable Ninja.
Great game! My kids are huge fans of Ninjago and they really enjoyed that there are different storylines to play through. The mini figures are really fun and working together as a team makes it a great family game!
Interesting little game . Great for kids who love the ninjago team and show.
My son is a huge Ninjago collector, so he was happy to receive this as a gift. But as a game, it's just awful. We had three adults and one 12 year old child playing and figuring it out felt impossible. It says it's for 8 and up, but I just don't see any way an 8 year old would be able to figure it out. The game itself receives zero stars from me. I added two stars for the pieces because my son was really happy with the pieces included. But it will never again get played with as intended, which is frustrating for something so expensive.
