Heat: Pedal to the Metal

Heat: Pedal to the Metal does a fantastic job of capturing the drama and excitement of racing. The simple system of picking numbered cards to decide how many spaces to move is complicated by the heat cards that fill up your hand as the game goes on as well as the stress cards that could cause you to overshoot a corner and spin out. The base game without any of the additional modules is simple to learn if a bit repetitive. The game really shines once you add one or more of the additional modules in the game. The Garage cards in particular make each players deck unique, adding the ability to take turns faster or give you additional chances to cool your engine and remove those useless heat cards from your hand. The Legends module allow for you to field a full field of 6 cars no matter how many players you have. The simple system that is implemented for the non player cars to move makes the race challenging but not imploding for the actual players. Overall this game I would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys simple rules and a system that rewards well managed risk taking.
