Great game, easy to teach, very nice components. The only negative is the organization tray makes it difficult to sort/store everything.

Good game but light on L5R Theme
I played a playtest of River of Gold at Gencon last year and just received my copy in the mail. It might have changed some from last year, but I didn't notice any changes. The problem it had then and still has now is that it doesn't feel very much like an L5R game. There's no intrigue, no Akira Kurosawa vibes... in fact you're not really playing samurai at all but merchants. So it's a fail on the theme.
The game itself is a pretty interesting movement and trading game where you have to balance picking up items, buying places on the map to sell items, and delivering items to clients.
The board is beautiful, and legitimately has one of the best looking boards and boxes of any board game I've ever played. Well done on the production of the set. The box itself comes with an organizer.... but it is slightly too small for the pieces included in the box so the lid doesn't close all the way.

Great game!
I love River of Gold! It has become my new favorite board game! It's very unique and I have yet to play a game going over an hour and a half even with completely new players. It can be a little hard to figure out your path to winning, though.
